Known as Silver Lake to Native Americans in the 1700s,

it is now a small lake town with approximately 800 year-round residents.

It once entertained over 10,000 visitors per day.

Collectively, the lake has produced 7 professional water skiers,

dozens of water ski tournament champions,

and 6 award-winning wakeboarders.

It served as a training camp during World War II.

In its heyday it was home to 5 public beaches,

one of which housed 21 amusement rides.

Throughout history, 8 different show boats toured the lake.

And the water is almost as clear as faucet water.
